Prop 50: Repeals Voter-Approved Independent Redistricting, Puts Politicians in Charge

This November, voters will face a costly $300 million special election to decide the fate of Proposition 50 — a direct attack on California’s landmark Redistricting Reform.

Prop 50 will repeal part of the 2010 Voters First Act for Congress, which gave the power to draw California’s Congressional districts to an independent 14-member Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Voting NO would keep the current system and independent citizens in charge. Voting YES puts the State Legislature in charge of those maps.

Prop 50 will cost taxpayers nearly $300 million to hold a special election while California is facing a $20 billion deficit.

Sacramento politicians say we need to fight fire with fire, but Prop 50 is really setting fire to voter-approved independent redistricting. California shouldn’t follow Texas and other states to gerrymander its congressional maps.

We should continue to lead the country in showing that independent, citizen-led redistricting is the better path forward for fair, competitive elections. We can’t protect democracy by destroying it.

Prop 50 is sponsored by the same Sacramento career politicians who have crippled California with:

The nation’s highest cost of living

The nation’s highest poverty rate

The nation’s highest gasoline prices

The nation’s highest utility costs

They are pushing Prop 50 because they’re terrified that voters will hold them accountable for their failed leadership.

Join the fight to defeat Prop 50.

Protect voter-approved Redistricting Reform.
